Monday we decided to go to the Festival of Trees so that the kids could see Santa. I read in the newspaper that Santa was going to be there every night at 6pm. And since Monday was the only night we could make it at 6pm we went for it. What the paper didn't mention was that the doors didn't open until 6pm that night either. So we got there around 5:45pm so we wouldn't have to wait for Santa and ended up waiting outside for about 20 minutes. At least we weren't the only people waiting for it to open though. The kids were really patient considering, and at least it wasn't really cold outside. Grandma came with us too so that helped entertain the kids more.
My planning paid off and we were the first ones to see Santa. Which was good because it took Clay a few minutes to warm up to the idea of going up to Santa. We finally got all the kids up there to get a picture and they smiled and were good. Of course after the kids are walking away the guy making the disk tells the camera guy that Clay isn't even in the frame. REALLY? You couldn't look through the camera for a second to check before taking the picture? So then I had to go through round 2 of getting Clay back up there. At least we don't have any crying kids this year in the picture. They were all so excited to see Santa and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Lizzie wants a Lalaloopsy doll that talks, and her hair spins. Clay wants this castle that comes with dinosaurs. Analyn asked for dolls.
Once Santa was done we walked around and looked at all the fun trees. One year I think it would be nice to bid on one, but right now we are too poor for that! Everyone picked out a favorite. Clay really like this one that was World of Warcrafts themed (or whatever the heck it is called!). I think he liked it because of the castle on top. Elizabeth liked the tree decorated by the Girl Scouts. Analyn didn't really have a favorite, so I took a picture of her in front of a Mardi Gras themed tree.
James and the kids really liked this one tree. It looked like the Grinch had his backside sticking out of the tree. The kids couldn't stop laughing when they saw that one. It was a really fun night and I think the kids are looking forward to it again next year.
