We got to carve pumpkins last night. The kids were excited to carve pumpkins and have James be home. School and work keep him very busy, so the kids haven't seen much of him lately. Clay kept telling me he didn't want to carve pumpkins, but once he saw Lizzie and James start he was really into it. This is the first year Clay gets this stuff so it's more fun for him and us. Makes me even more excited to see his reaction at Christmas time! Lizzie was able to do a lot of it by herself. She really wanted to try carving by herself, but James and I both told her no.
Analyn was just trying to figure out what the heck we were doing. She squeals a lot to get our attention now and she was quiet the whole time trying to work it out herself.
Clay was very interested in the guts of the pumpkin. I showed him what the seeds look like. He kept messing with the guts and then he would say, "Yuck, that's disgusting." And then in true boy fashion he had to lick part of the pumpkin and the seeds. Gross!
Lizzie is really working hard on writing and holding a pen/pencil. She does pretty good with writing her name and she wanted to try drawing her own face on her pumpkin. James drew a face on her pumpkin too and she told him what shapes she wanted for which facial feature.
Lizzie's pumpkin. Obviously this is the side that James drew.
And Clay's pumpkin. He wanted a scary Max pumpkin. He loves to watch "Ruby and Max" and we watched an episode this week where Max drew a scary pumpkin face. So he wanted one too. James did a good job making it look sinister.
My Mom bought a big pumpkin that we carved. Both Lizzie and Clay had mini pumpkins. My Mom went to Idaho a week or so ago and my Grandma sent pack 2 small pumpkins for the kids and this small little gourd for Analyn. Analyn wants to chew on it more than anything. Lizzie enjoyed it too because I got to show her that pumpkins are green and then turn orange.
Finished products. Lizzie drew the shapes for the face on the big pumpkin. She did really good too.
Hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween. We are looking forward to our trunk and treat at the church tomorrow and trick or treating in general.
